BUILDING YOUR STUDIO

The Table / Desk

The absolutely critical part of your studio to get right. We highly recommend a desk that can be adjusted to stand and sit - as you could be there for hours each day! Check out our home studio tour to see our super-long, electronically adjustable studio desk. Also, consider something around 70-80cm deep to give you plenty of space between the screen and your face. And go as long as you can, you can never have too much space as a designer - where you might one day need to make some physical patterns (like we do, so we can use it as our pattern-cutting table too!).

Desk Frame / Legs

Our desk is the FlexiSpot Standing Table Frame Only (from Amazon UK). It has good height min/max extremes, is sturdy (doesn't shake when raised) and has auto-collision detection - often a feature not found on budget frames. We think this is one of the best value-for-money vs quality/features on the market right now.

Desk table top

Our desk top is made from 2x Ikea TROTTEN Table top, white, 120x70 cm (connected side by side which makes a single table top of 240cm x 70cm!). NOTE: You'll need to be quite handy to find a way of connecting the two pieces together. We used two metal bars underneath to securely connect the two table tops together, and then screwed this to the desk frame.
If you're looking for something simpler, without the need to use your DIY skills to connect the table table tops together, then you could consider the Allcam Table Top 1600x800 from Amazon.

The Chair

Whilst we think the desk is critical for work flexibility, the chair is paramount for your long term health and wellbeing. Getting the right chair is something that comes down to person choice very often - but we recommend you look for something with adjustments for height, back, neck, arms etc. The more you can adjust each element of the chair to your own shape/size, the more likely you're going to find a suitable and healthy posture for those long shifts sitting at your desk.

Music & SoundFX

If you're producing content for presentations, social media, portfolios, websites, or anything that needs music and sound effects, then you're going to need access to music that has the appropriate copyright and quality! Don't waste your money on this - there are a lot of old-school agencies still charging crazy prizes for music copyright. We strongly recommend getting your music and soundfx from AUDIIO.
